I just came back from Florida, where I really loved a wine bar called Vino, on Harrison St in Hollywood. Many things made this place special: the staff was great and warm, the wine selection was interesting, the vibe was unpretentious and best of all, I loved the DIY wine tastings. At Vino, you buy a card for $5 and put money into it, and then use it to pour wine from the dispensers (you get to keep the card for next time). You can get tastings as small as one ounce, or a whole glass. Each wine pour is a different price. For only $10, you can taste a lot. Their bacon-wrapped dates are great, as is the soft-center chocolate torte. And April, the bartender, makes excellent cocktails too - she made a great cucumber martini for a friend, and stuffed olives with blue cheese by hand for another friend’s dirty martini. You can’t get better service than this.

A very good cafe au lait at Le Petit Prince in Hollywood Beach, FL yesterday.

Crab cake salad at Coconuts in Ft Lauderdale - I did not order this, but got to try it, and the crab cake was one of the best I’ve ever had. There was lots of crab in it, and it tasted fresh and perfect in texture. Next time I’m ordering this.

Fish tacos at Coconuts in Ft Lauderdale, FL for lunch today. Great food, loved sitting outside watching the boats.

Cod fritters at Latin Cafe in Miami yesterday.

Feast at Little Havana Restaurant in Miami, yesterday.

I’m in Florida, having great juicy mangoes from a friend’s tree.
